Southern Region Water Board through Government of Malawi secured resources from KFAED to implement Extension of Mangochi Project. The project targets a supply area from Mpondasi to Mtakataka Turn-Off including Namiasi, Maldeco and Makawa market centres and it is estimated to benefit 92,870 people.
The project started in February 2021 and is expected to be commissioned in May 2022. The works composition includes the construction of an intake structure at Nkhudzi bay, a water treatment plant at Mwanyama Village, a 4000m3 mass balance reservoir at Nkhudzi Hill, a 85 km of pipeline and the construction of CWPs and auxiliary buildings.
PROJECTS PROGRESS
Currently, the project progress is as follow: Water purification plant is at 85%, Tank is at70%, Pipeline is at 63% and auxiliary buildings are at 90% completion.
