General Description

The name of the project is Construction of Water Supply Project in Makanjila. The location of the project is in Makanjila, Mangochi district, Malawi. Makanjila is approximately 100km from Mangochi town. The project will involve construction of a conventional water treatment plant with all amenities with a capacity of 12,500m³ per day.

The project objective is to supply treated water to Makanjila residents including hospital, schools as well as a police station.

Scope of works.

The works under the project includes construction of intake structure, pumping main, treatment units, pump house, 1500m³ service water tank, 150m³ elevated water tank, distribution lines, water kiosks, staff houses, scheme office, toilet block, perimeter fence and guard house. There will be also access road to the treatment works with streetlights, drainage and parking area.

Treatment Work units

• Site clearance is complete for all facilities including treatment units and buildings.
• Excavations for aerator, flocculators and sedimentation tanks are complete.
• Casting bases for aerator, flocculators and Sedimentation tanks is done.
• The walls for aerator are done.
• Still fixing for flocculators main walls is done, formwork fixing is done.
• Casting of concrete for the first flocculator is done.
• Casting of concrete for the second flocculator is done.
• Steel fixing for the Sedimentation tank is still in progress.
• Formwork for the first sedimentation tank is in progress.

1,500m³ Tank

• Site establishment & preliminary survey is complete.
• Site clearance is complete.
• Hardcore packing for base is done.
• Compaction of the base and blinding is done.
• Steel fixing for the base is still in progress.

150m³ Elevated Tank

• Setting out done, excavation for bases to commence.

Staff House (3No.)

• Construction done up to roofing level for three houses, installation of trusses is also done.
• Plumbing and electrical fittings installation ongoing.
• Installation of door frames done.
• Roofing of all the three staff houses is done.
• Plastering is in progress for all staff houses is in progress.
• Electrical installation is ongoing.
• Installation of window and door frames is ongoing.

Scheme office

• Construction done up to roofing level, installation of trusses to commence.
