SRWB Extends a Helping Hand to Vulnerable Communities Amid COVID-19 Outbreak

In a heartfelt show of solidarity and compassion, Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) joined forces with the District Council on 3rd April 2020 to provide vital supplies to some of the most vulnerable members of society. The outreach saw over a hundred beneficiaries from the communities of Dzaone, Chakala, and Lambulira in the Thondwe area receiving essential items such as maize flour, sugar, salt, and soap.

The distribution exercise was made possible through close coordination with the District Council, which played a critical role in identifying and mobilizing the rightful beneficiaries. For SRWB, it was a meaningful opportunity to give back to the communities that are now part of its expanding water service network.

“We care deeply about the health and well being of the people in this region. Beyond providing clean and safe water, we also feel it is our duty to assist in times of crisis by supporting households with essential food items,” said the SRWB Board Chair Luther Mlambala during the event.

The donation came just a day after the President of Malawi announced the country’s first confirmed cases of COVID-19. In light of this, the event also served as a platform for both SRWB and Council officials to raise awareness on the importance of hygiene and access to clean tap water as a frontline defense against the virus. City Council representatives also took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of observing social distancing and following public health guidelines.
