SRWB STEPS UP FOR ZOMBA: INVESTING IN COMMUNITY AND SAFETY

Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) has contributed MWK 8 million towards the Zomba Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Fundraiser held on October 12, 2024, at Zomba Gymkhana Club. The fundraising initiative aimed to enhance safety and promote education in Zomba City by mobilizing resources for the construction of a police waiting shelter, the renovation of police cells, and the sponsorship of school fees for vulnerable students.
The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Malawi Police Service, the Malawi Defence Force, civil society, and the broader community. Organizers targeted a fundraising goal of MWK 60 million to support the outlined initiatives.
Speaking during the event, SRWB Public Relations Executive Ritta Makwangwala highlighted the Board’s longstanding partnership with the Malawi Police Service. She noted that SRWB’s contribution was a gesture of appreciation for the critical support police have provided in addressing illegal water connections and assisting with other law enforcement matters.
“This partnership has been instrumental to our operations,” said Makwangwala. “It was especially evident during Zomba’s 10-day water crisis, when the swift response and protection from the police enabled us to restore services more efficiently.”
Through such collaborations, SRWB reaffirms its commitment to building a safer, greener, and more resilient Zomba City—where institutions, communities, and service providers work hand in hand to improve lives.
