The award-winning talent that is Jacqueline Dias stands at the forefront of infrastructure innovation at Southern Region Water Board, where she serves as the Director of Infrastructure Development. Winner of the 2025 Best Female Engineer Award, Jacqueline is celebrated not only for her technical brilliance but also for her unwavering commitment to water resource sustainability and engineering excellence in Malawi.
Her academic foundation is as impressive as her field experience. She holds a Master’s degree in Integrated Water Resources Management from the University of Zimbabwe—a qualification that speaks volumes about her deep understanding of water challenges and solutions in the region and a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Malawi the Polytechnic.
At SRWB, Jacqueline oversees the planning, design, funding, and implementation of infrastructure projects. Her department plays a crucial role in identifying service gaps, preparing feasibility studies, and working hand-in-hand with development partners to drive impactful water solutions. Once projects are executed, her team ensures a seamless handover to the operations division.
Among her proudest achievements is the Nkhudzi Water Supply Project—an initiative she championed from concept to completion. What began as a bold idea to expand supply in a tourism-heavy lakeshore region turned into a landmark success, completed through in-house design and her hands-on leadership. She recalls walking over 50 kilometers during early site surveys, a testament to her dedication and field-first approach.
