SRWB Boosts Service Reliability with New Backup Power Systems

Southern Region Water Board has enhanced its operational resilience by procuring 38 generators as part of efforts to ensure continuous water supply across its service areas.
Recognizing the critical role of electricity in water distribution, SRWB has invested in generators with capacities ranging from 1.5KW to 66KW to provide backup power at key installations and pumping stations. This initiative underscores the Board’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted service delivery to its customers.

The generators, recently delivered, were officially inspected by the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Honourable John Bande, during a ceremonial event held at Queens Mall in Lilongwe.
Speaking after the inspection, Honourable Bande commended SRWB for its strategic approach to service delivery. “The Board has demonstrated commendable foresight and resilience by strengthening its operational systems. I urge SRWB to expedite the installation process and ensure the generators are used effectively and for their intended purpose,” he said.
On his part, SRWB Chief Executive Officer Duncan Chambamba reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to providing reliable water services. He further disclosed that, in addition to generator backup, SRWB is actively exploring alternative energy sources, including solar power, as a sustainable long-term solution to support its operations.
